Contributing to society through science

My conviction of my role in academia and in society more broadly is not only to advance our understanding of the world that we live in, but also to open possibilities for others to overcome adversity. This conviction is rooted in my personal experiences growing up in Colombia and training as a scientist in my homeland and in the US. I work towards 1) promoting the inclusion of marginalized groups via leadership, 2) contributing to making the scientific community more diverse and vibrant via targeted outreach, and 3) giving back to my community via collaborative research (see my CV for specific activities).

Below are some science communication projects that I have participated in, as well as activities to promote the engagement of the general public in science, and herbarium-based targeted outreach activities.  Click on the images to watch or read!
